What is Acupuncture Treatment?
The patient will lie down on their front, back, or on side, depending on where the needles need to be inserted. The acupuncturist will use only single, disposable, sterile thin needles. When each needle is inserted, the client may feel a very short stinging or tingling feeling. Once the needle is placed in the body there may be a slightly dull ache at the base of the needle that goes away after time. Acupuncture is pain-free. Depending on the condition the needles are stimulated or heated with electricity after being placed in the body.) The needles will remain in place for 5 to 30 minutes. The amount of treatments that are needed depends on the person. A patient with chronic conditions may need more than one or two treatments in one week or over several months. Acute conditions usually improves after completing the course of 8 to 12 different acupuncture treatments.
